"An Irish Airman Foresees His Death"

I know that I shall meet my fate
Somewhere among the clouds above:
Those that I fight I do not hate,
Those that I guard I do not love:
My country is Kiltartan Cross,
My countrymen Kiltartan's poor,
No likely end could bring them loss
Or leave them happier than before.
Nor law, nor duty bade me fight,
Nor public men, nor cheering crowds,
A lonely impulse of delight
Drove to this tumult in the clouds;
I balanced all, brought all to mind,
The years to come seemed waste of breath,
A waste of breath the years behind
In balance with this life, this death.

Lobby? Wait Until You See The Ballroom

Anglican leader to hold rare meeting with Pope

By Paul MajendieThu Mar 23, 8:15 AM ET

Anglican leader Rowan Williams is to visit Pope Benedict in the Vatican as the world's two largest organized churches battle to bridge their differences over homosexuality. The visit later this year will mark the 40th anniversary of Archbishop of Canterbury Michael Ramsey's historic meeting with Pope Paul VI in 1966.
That was the first formal meeting between the heads of the two churches since England's King Henry VIII broke with Rome in the 16th Century.

"My visit this autumn is an opportunity to continue that rich tradition of visits between Canterbury and Rome," said Williams, struggling to avoid schism in his own church over the ordination in America of openly gay bishop Gene Robinson.

The blessing of same-sex unions in Canada's Anglican Church and moves to ordinate women bishops in the Church of England are two other issues that could drive Protestants and Catholics further apart.

"We are living in an ecumenical winter," admitted former Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey who visited Pope John Paul six times. "It has got even icier since the American church's decision to consecrate Gene Robinson which goes completely against the Catholic position and the historic position of the Anglican communion as well," he told the Times. Carey hoped the personal chemistry between Williams and Pope Benedict would help to mend bridges.

The Roman Catholic Church, which accounts for just over half of the world's 2 billion Christians, has been working since the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) with its "separated brothers" to try to overcome the splits in Christianity.

Man Overboard
By Ruth Marcus
Tuesday, March 21, 2006; A17

I have a new theory about what's behind everything that's wrong with the Bush administration: manliness. "Manliness" is the unapologetic title of a new book by Harvey C. Mansfield, a conservative professor of government at Harvard University, which makes him a species as rare as a dissenting voice in the Bush White House. Mansfield's thesis is that manliness, which he sums up as "confidence in the face of risk," is a misunderstood and unappreciated attribute. Manliness, he writes, "seeks and welcomes drama and prefers times of war, conflict, and risk." It entails assertiveness, even stubbornness, and craves power and action. It explains why men, naturally inclined to assert that "our policy, our party, our regime is superior," dominate in the political sphere.

Now, use this in a sentence...
he·ge·mo·ny: n.
Etymology: Greek hEgemonia, from hEgemOn leader, from hEgeisthai to lead: preponderant influence or authority over others : DOMINATION
e.g We elect the President to assert the hegemony of the United States and Western Civilization over competing ideologies.

Young Men Are 'Secret Traditionalists'

London: Teenagers and young men today are secret traditionalists who believe in hard work and family values, new research has revealed. The popular stereo-type of the menacing hoodie feared as a yobbo and restrained by an ASBO appears far from being the truth.
The unexpected findings were uncovered by research group Prescient which quizzed almost 1,000 men aged from 18 to 24. It carried out the survey for the Army over the December 2005 and January 2006 period, questioning young men across the UK.
The research looked at the mind set and attitudes of the chosen group and found it had "surprisingly traditional values." "The study revealed that young men today are unpredictably traditional in their values and beliefs," a spokesman for Prescient said."They believe manhood lies in inner strength, rather than brute force, sexual prowess or material goods."

'For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways', says the Lord.

'For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

'As the rain and the snow come down from above,
and return not again but water the earth,

'Bringing forth life and giving growth,
seed for sowing and bread to eat,

'So is my word that goes forth from my mouth;
it will not return to me fruitless,

'But it will accomplish that which I purpose,
and succeed in the task I gave it.'

The Harvard Pink Gets a Scoop!

(Cambridge):Anti-war protesters amassed at the Kennedy School of Government on Friday, when 2004 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass) spoke with former Senator Max Cleland and a group of veterans to a packed John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum. While Kerry came to Harvard for the premiere of “Hidden Wounds,” a documentary on veterans of the war in Iraq suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the event took a political turn as several dozen protesters gathered together at 79 JFK Street.
“Bush Lied. Kerry Complied. Bring the troops home now,” they chanted outside the Kennedy School. The protest was sponsored by the organizations Not One More (NOM) and Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) as part of their continued effort to provoke a withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.
One man, who was sitting inside the forum, called out to Kerry after the documentary. “Stop this war, John, grow some balls” the man said. “You can do something, John.”

Obviously, the Phalanx of the Cambridge godless do not know that in his year of Skulls and Bones, Kerry was designated the codename 'Lucky Pierre.' Eulogia screams in vain.

Ecstasy Causes Depression in Pigs (But It Gets Them Laid First)

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, March 10 (UPI) -- Danish scientific experiments where Ecstasy was adminstered to pigs may help to explain depression in humans abusing the drug.
The three-year study conducted at the PET Center at Arhus Hospital in Denmark showed the recreational drug caused depression in laboratory pigs, reported The Copenhagen Post Friday. The scientists injected pigs with varying doses of Ecstasy to study the effect the drug has on the pigs' brains. Pigs' brains are similar to human brains.
"We have proven that Ecstasy releases seratonin in the brain, which we know plays a role in depression," said Dr. Aage Kristian Olsen at Arhus Hospital. "Ecstasy users risk depression given its long-term effects on the brain."
The scientists noted that pigs on Ecstasy lost control of their body temperature, an effect also seen in human overdose fatalities, Olsen said.

DUBLIN, Ireland -- Police, soldiers and customs officials from both parts of Ireland launched a dawn raid Thursday on the border home of the Irish Republican Army's alleged chief of staff, Thomas "Slab" Murphy.

At least 400 soldiers and officers from the Garda Siochana, Ireland's national police, and the Police Service of Northern Ireland converged on several properties in the so-called "bandit country" borderland. Among the first properties targeted was Murphy's border-straddling farm. Police reported no immediate arrests.

Julia's unit in the Fiction Department had been taken off the production of novels and was rushing out a series of atrocity pamphlets. Winston, in addition to his regular work, spent long periods every day in going through back files of The Times and altering and embellishing news items which were to be quoted in speeches. Late at night, when crowds of rowdy proles roamed the streets, the town had a curiously febrile air. The rocket bombs crashed oftener than ever, and sometimes in the far distance there were enormous explosions which no one could explain and about which there were wild rumours.
